Kana Harada makes beautiful foam-cut plant forms. She recently had an opening at the MAC in Dallas TX … here is my review on Glasstire.

Tom Lauerman

Tom Lauerman is a sculptor (with a ceramics background) who continues to play with sculture “that loves architecture.” What I love in particular is how many different ways of thinking he employs (drawing, CAD, moquettes, etc…) and how he makes all these images available on his Flickr Stream. Actually, that is the Flickr page of the Art Collective “Telegraph,” of which is a part.

- You can see images from his recent opening at Peel Gallery in Houston here.

- And a set of the specific work included in the current show here.

Here are a few more images below exploring what these small forms might be like large. Once again, great use of technology as tool to think about form, but not over-determining the process. Nice.

“Sho,” by Jaume Plensa

img_2100.jpg
“Sho” is the new centerpiece of the Meadows Museum Sculpture Plaza. Created by Spanish Artist Jaume Plensa, the work helps to unify the vast (empty) expanse of this plaza. I particularly loved how the head ends up containing it’s background … creating new forms and metaphors as I move around it. Full album here.

Augusta Wood

augustawood.jpg

Above is an photograph by a young artist named Augusta Wood. She graduated from CalArts with an MFA in 2005 and makes incredible work. Turns out, she is the younger sister of Jonas Wood, a painter I went to graduate school with, and who is also getting lots of acclaim.

This particular piece (above) comes from a larger body of work where she projected her childhood photos within her grandfather’s vacant house, where the memories were originally captured. I love how the camera’s eye-level is about 3ft off the ground, like a child. The image and statement below (by Jonas) can from a Facebook update today:

“Just traded with my sister, Augusta Wood, to get this sweet photograph she made. My grandfathers old house was empty right before they sold it and she went up there and did this huge photography project. She projected old photographs onto there original locations in the house and then photographed them. The whole project is great and this piece is really amazing!!!”

I remember looking back at my baby albums and was confused to see photos which I thought were memories. Shockingly, I only had a distant memory of the photo. Very complicated and emotional stuff.
