Check out Dennis Hollingsworth’s latest set of drawings, very exciting! So many ways to touch the page, and so much more. I love how every mark affects all the other marks around it, creating and flattening space, motion and complexity.

Carol Diehl (artist, art critic and blogger) is the writer behind the very stimulating blog ArtVent. She has just written a very interesting post about the state of the arts, which includes a brief summary of the 20th Century. The last paragraph of the this post reads:
“The last century was about experimentation with media—as well as what could be done without it. But we’re over that. We’re over being excited about something just because it’s video, or because the artist figured out how to make something out of bat shit, and we’ve discovered that painting is still interesting because it’s the most plastic, and therefore most expressive of materials. Now that the toolbox has been opened and found to hold every possibility, the question is, in service to what? And how do we evaluate the results?”
While I don’t think this is objectively true, it feels very true from an artist’s perspective. There is nothing left to push against, no rules. And yet, artists must still choose. Very interesting times.

Click on picture for full view of results from the survey in the previous post. The first few answers were my tech friends, but otherwise, it looks like people struggled with the last question. To read about the difference between web-apps and software, read this post on the SlideRoom Blog. An example that might help: Email is an example of a web-app, but Microsoft Word is software.

I just learned how to create surveys on Google docs, which makes me pretty cool. These can be emailed or embedded, and the results all show up on a spreadsheet. I thought I would test it how to see how tech-smart you are!
